A decade is a very long time. The top songs of the decade are truly the best of the best. These are songs you may know by heart. In the 2000s, Mariah Carey had the top song, and many of the top hits of the decade. Shaggy, OutKast, Hoobastank, and Mario, had songs 2 through 5 of the decade. That’s lots of soul dominating the top spots — not Hoobastank of course, which is rock. Still, the top 100 songs is full of all kinds of variety — rock, pop, soul, dance, ballads, rap, alternative, you name it.

Same winner of the top song of the 1990s — Mariah Carey had the top song, and many of the top hits of the decade. She was huge in the 90s — pretty amazing to have the top song of the decade — imagine having it twice? Alternative broke out in a big way, with Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, Red Hot Chili Peppers and guitar legend Carlos Santana coming together with big alternative singer Rob Thomas. Dance became much hotter with Ace Of Base and Real McCoy. 90s decade was heavy on either alternative or dance, and sometimes both combined.

Who could forget the Big Eighties! Were you around in the 80s? With Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, The Police, Chicago, Dionne Warwick, and George Michael representing in the top 5, you can see the variety. This is why the 80’s are legendary. You never knew what was coming out.

The seventies were so underrated. Sure, the top songs have an extra share of ballady type pop songs, but dig through the list. Rod Stewart has three songs in the top 20, and they are all very different. Besides that, you have dance, disco, rock, guitars, classic singalongs, soul, more country that ever since, even a generous amount of metal, and on it goes!

The 1960s was the first full decade of rock music. The decade was filled with the soul of The Supremes and the guitar rock of The Beatles. And there was so much more.
